Service Contracts and Maintenance


The ‘NEED’ for planned maintenance & extended warranty

  • To reduce the cost of repairs to the owner.
  • To ensure that our products consistently meet our customers needs & expectations.
  • To prevent untimely and expensive breakdowns.

Factors affecting the reliability of combination ovens in general

  • Little or no maintenance.
  • Repairs carried out by incompetent / untrained service personnel.
  • Inadequate or lack of water treatment.
  • Inadequate customer knowledge with respect to functions / operational procedures of the machine.

Little or no maintenance of the ovens

  • Most customers buy their combination ovens from distributors.
  • Then we as Rational Service Partners service the machine during the first 12 months, on a breakdown-only basis.
  • Subsequently, the machine is maintained at the discretion of the customer.

…. In our experience, if the machine is not regularly maintained, breakdown will occur at a time when the machine is in most demand. Repair costs will be expensive.

THIS IS CALLED ‘SODS LAW’

Repairs carried out by incompetent or untrained service personnel

  • There are many service companies out in the field, servicing Rational ovens as part of a complete kitchen maintenance package.
  • Many of the engineers who carry out this work have had little or no training on the latest generation of combination ovens.
  • Parts may be sold to customers at inflated, or ‘above list’ prices.

In many instances, machines are being repaired by fitting parts until the fault is found, with engineers having little or no conception of the diagnostic and function programmes.

This results in potentially, high cost of ownership.

Inadequate customer knowledge with respect to the functions of the machine

  • We are aware from calls received in the service office, that many of our customers do not fully understand the function of all the various features of their machine.

There is a need for some basic instruction.

Inadequate, or lack of water treatment

  • Inadequate, or lack of water treatment to a combination oven has been proved to cause significant scaling of the steam generator, drain box, and interior cabinet. These are areas where the water contains a high proportion of temporary hardness.
  • It has been proved that severe scaling of the components in the machine will cause unpredictable breakdowns, with high costs for replacement of parts damaged directly, and indirectly by the scale.
  • A properly installed, and maintained calcium treatment unit, will ensure that there is no build up of scale, which will result in a significant reduction in spare parts costs.

  • Budget 5 day Labour only maintenance – any RATIONAL machine
  • Budget 7 day Labour only maintenance – any RATIONAL machine
  • Total Care 5 day maintenance – up to 5 years old subject to survey
  • Total Care 7 day maintenance – up to 5 years old subject to survey

All contracts are offered with the calcium water treatment total care package as an optional extra. This package is offered in conjunction with Brita Water Filters.

Water Treatment

  • The package can be tailored to run in conjunction with any maintenance or extended warranty agreement taken out by the customer.
